Deleting your account
How to delete your Myzo family account, what happens during the 7-day grace period, how it affects your kids' work, what happens to your subscription, and how to restore your account if you change your mind.
Updated 2026-08-26
Deleting your Myzo family account is a two-step process, on purpose. When you tap Delete, we start a 7-day grace period rather than wiping everything immediately. This gives your kids time to wrap up any assignments they're in the middle of, and gives you time to change your mind. After 7 days, everything tied to your family is permanently erased and cannot be recovered.
How to start deletion
Open the Myzo Parents app and go to Settings. Scroll to the bottom — the red Danger Zone card is the last section on the screen. Tap Delete Account & Family Data.
You'll walk through three steps:
- Delete account? confirmation — a summary of what's about to happen. Tap Continue to proceed or Cancel to bail out.
- Before you go — an optional one-question survey asking why you're cancelling. Your answer is optional but genuinely helps us fix what's not working. Every choice (including Prefer not to say) proceeds to the final confirm; a Cancel deletion link at the bottom aborts the whole flow.
- Are you absolutely sure? — the final confirmation. This is where we tell you exactly what happens to your subscription based on how you originally signed up (see the What happens to your subscription section below). Tap Start 7-day countdown to begin, or Cancel to back out.
Once you tap Start 7-day countdown, the grace period begins immediately.
What happens during the grace period
The moment the countdown starts, this changes:
- Your Parents app shows an unmissable overlay every time you open it, saying your account is scheduled for permanent deletion in N days. There's a Restore My Account button right there.
- Your kids' apps stay usable but can't create new work.
- The Create New Task button on their dashboard is greyed out with a message: "Your parent closed the account. If you think you still need it, ask your parent."
- The Create Flash Cards buttons flip to "Ask my parent" mode.
- Everything else — existing tasks, timers, existing flashcards, rewards, XP — stays fully working. They can finish whatever they were in the middle of.
- Your subscription stops auto-renewing (see below for the specifics per store).
What happens to your subscription
It depends on how you signed up.
If you subscribed through the Myzo website (Paddle)
We automatically cancel your subscription at the end of your current billing period. You won't be charged again. You keep service through the days you already paid for. If you restore your account before the 7 days end, the cancellation is reversed automatically and your subscription continues normally.
If you subscribed through the App Store (Apple)
We can't cancel this for you. Apple's rules require you to cancel Apple subscriptions yourself in the iOS Settings app. When the deletion overlay appears in the Parents app, there's an Open Subscription Settings button that takes you straight there. Tap it, find Myzo Parents, and tap Cancel Subscription. Do this before your next billing date to avoid an extra charge.
If you subscribed through Google Play (Android)
Same as Apple. Google Play subscriptions must be canceled from the Play Store's own Subscriptions page. Open the Play Store, tap your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Myzo Parents → Cancel subscription.
Restoring your account
If you change your mind at any point during the 7 days, tap Restore My Account on the overlay (or in the Danger Zone in Settings). Your account and all data come back exactly as they were:
- Your kids' tasks, flashcards, XP, streaks, achievements — untouched.
- The Kids app returns to normal (Create New Task and Create Flash Cards work again).
- If your subscription was on Paddle and we scheduled it for cancellation, we reverse the cancellation. Auto-renew resumes.
- If your subscription was on Apple or Google and you already canceled in the store, you'll need to re-subscribe to keep service after the current period ends. Restore only affects the Myzo side.
After the 7 days
If you don't restore, on day 7 our scheduled hard-delete job runs and permanently removes:
- Your parent account.
- Every child profile under your family.
- Every task, sub-task, focus session, and points entry.
- Every flashcard set and every card inside them.
- Every reward you set up and every reward your kids redeemed.
- Every achievement your kids unlocked.
- Every grade you logged.
- Your family's subscription record.
- The email on file is freed up, so you can create a new account with it later if you ever want to come back.
There is no way to recover any of this after the hard delete runs. The 7-day window is your only recovery path.
Common questions
Can I delete just one kid instead of the whole family?
Yes — from the child's screen in the Parents app, tap the settings
gear and choose Remove this child. That's separate from deleting
the whole account.
What if I have multiple parents on the account?
Only the primary guardian can start the deletion. Secondary guardians
can see the Danger Zone card but the Delete button isn't shown.
Does my kid see something on their device that says the account is
being deleted?
Not with those exact words. Their app tells them their parent closed
the account and they should ask you if they still need it. The
specific wording is kid-friendly and doesn't say "deletion" or
"terminated."
I deleted my account and got a charge from Paddle after — what
happened?
The cancel-at-period-end schedule stops future charges, but any
charge that had already been processed before you deleted stays in
place. If you think a charge shouldn't have gone through, email
legal@getmyzo.com with the transaction
details and we'll coordinate with Paddle on a refund per the
refund policy.
I deleted my account and want to come back later — will my old
data be there?
No. After the 7-day hard delete, everything is gone. If you sign up
again with the same email, you'll start with a fresh empty account.
