Troubleshooting
Common issues with the Myzo Parents and Kids apps and how to fix them. Covers QR pairing, sign-in, sync, tasks not showing up, and more.

Most issues in Myzo are fixable in seconds by force-quitting and reopening the app. This page walks through the specific fixes for the ones we hear about most often.
QR pairing
"This code isn't valid" when scanning a QR code
If the Kids app shows the "This code isn't valid" screen when your child scans a fresh QR code, the most common cause is that the Kids app was already running in the foreground when the scan happened. The fix is to force-quit and try again:
- On the child's phone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle to open the app switcher.
- Find the Myzo Kids card and swipe it up to close it.
- Generate a fresh QR code in the Parents app (an old QR gets revoked when you generate a new one, so use the newest one).
- Have your child scan the new code with their phone's camera.
- Tap the notification banner that appears — this cold-launches the Kids app straight into the pairing flow and it'll succeed.
The QR code expired before my child scanned it
Fresh QR codes are valid for 30 days after you generate them. If yours has expired, just generate a new one from the child's settings page in the Parents app.
I don't want to scan a QR — my kid started Myzo Kids themselves
If your kid tapped NO ACCOUNT YET — Start on my own in Myzo Kids and now you're adding them to your family, use the Enter Code card on the Add Child screen instead of the QR path. They'll see a 6-character setup code on their phone; type it into your app and Myzo links their in-progress account to your family in one step (writing their child record, your consent, their first school semester, and their tutorial state server-side atomically).
The QR code was already used
Each QR code is single-use. Once a device pairs with it, the code is marked used. To pair a second device (a sibling's phone, or a new device for the same kid), generate a fresh QR code — the previous one auto-revokes.
Sign-in and account access
My child forgot their PIN
You can set a new PIN for them from the Parents app. Tap the child's card on the dashboard, go to Settings, and choose Set PIN. The new PIN takes effect the next time they open the Kids app.
The Parents app keeps kicking me to the welcome screen
Usually this means your saved session expired and you're offline when the app tries to refresh it. Reconnect to WiFi or cell data and reopen the app — the sign-in restores automatically. If it still happens after you're back online, sign in again with your email and password.
The Kids app shows a full-screen "Your account is gone" message
Your child's account was removed from your Parents dashboard. If you did this on purpose, no action is needed — the account will hard-delete after 7 days. If it was a mistake, tap Restore in the Recently removed section of your Parents dashboard, then tap Refresh on the child's overlay. Their app returns to normal without a reload. See Removing a child for the full details.
Tasks and sync
A task I created isn't showing up on my child's phone
Both apps sync in the background, but if you added a task and your child's phone is offline, the task won't appear until their device is back on WiFi or cell data. Two quick things to try:
- Have your child pull down on their task list to force a refresh.
- If that doesn't help, force-quit the Kids app and reopen it — a cold launch always pulls the latest tasks.
Grades I logged aren't appearing on my child's Progress page
Same fix as above — pull down on the Progress screen to refresh, or force-quit and reopen. Grades sync in real-time when both devices are online, so if you see a lag it almost always means one side is offline.
Notifications
My child isn't getting session-end or break-end notifications
Check that notifications are enabled for the Kids app in the iPhone's Settings app: Settings → Notifications → Myzo Kids → Allow Notifications. Also make sure Focus Mode isn't blocking them (some Focus modes silence everything except allowed apps).
I'm getting duplicate notifications
Sign out of the Parents app on any old devices you're no longer using. Each signed-in device receives its own copy of every notification.
