Removing a child
How to remove a single child from your Myzo family account, the 7-day recovery window, what happens to their tasks and XP, how to restore them, and how to start fresh instead.
Updated 2026-08-25
Removing a single child from your family works the same way as deleting the whole account: we start a 7-day recovery window instead of wiping their data immediately. If it was a mistake — or your kid asks you to bring their account back — you can restore them any time before the countdown ends and everything comes back untouched. After 7 days, that child's tasks, XP, flashcards, and achievements are permanently erased.
How to remove a child
Open the Myzo Parents app and tap the child's card on the dashboard. Go to their Settings and tap Remove [Child]. Confirm the destructive prompt.
The moment you confirm, three things happen at once:
- The child's card disappears from the active list on your dashboard and shows up in a Recently removed section beneath it, with a countdown ("N days left to restore") and a Restore button.
- Their device on the Kids app is signed out. If they had the app open, a full-screen message appears telling them the account was removed and asking them to check with you.
- Everything else about your family (the parent app, other kids, your subscription) stays untouched — this is a per-child action, not a family-wide delete.
Restoring during the 7 days
Tap Restore next to their name in the Recently removed section of the dashboard. Their account and all data come back exactly as they were:
- Their tasks, sub-tasks, flashcards, XP, streaks, and achievements — untouched.
- Grades you already logged for them are still there.
- The child needs to pair a new QR code to sign back in on their phone. Tap their card, then generate a fresh QR from the child settings screen — the kid scans it and they're back in with all their old data intact.
Removing a child with the same name as one you just removed
If you try to add a new child with the same first name as one still in the recovery window, the app catches this and asks:
Restore [Name]? You removed this account recently. Restore it to bring back their tasks, XP, and history, or start fresh with a brand new account.
Two buttons:
- Restore account — brings the old child back with all their data. Same as tapping Restore in the Recently removed section.
- Start fresh — closes the prompt and lets you finish creating a brand new child with that name. The recently-removed child stays in the countdown and hard-deletes on schedule; the two never collide.
The sniff only fires within the 7-day window. Once a removed child hard-deletes, adding a new one with the same name creates a fresh account cleanly, no prompt.
After the 7 days
If you don't restore, our scheduled hard-delete job runs and permanently removes:
- The child's profile.
- Every task and sub-task assigned to them.
- Every focus session and every points entry.
- Every flashcard set and every card inside them.
- Every reward they redeemed.
- Every achievement they unlocked.
- Every grade you logged for them.
There is no way to recover any of this after the hard delete runs. The 7-day window is your only recovery path for that specific child.
Removing a child does not affect your subscription or your other kids. Your family's plan, guardians, and other children continue exactly as before.
Common questions
How is this different from deleting my whole account? Deleting the whole account (from the Danger Zone in Settings) tears down every child in your family plus your parent account itself, and locks the parent app immediately. Removing one child only affects that one kid; the parent app and any other children you have keep working normally.
Can my child still use their tasks during the 7 days? No. Unlike the whole-family wind-down, individual child removal signs the child out of the Kids app right away. If you want them to wrap up work, tell them to finish before you tap Remove.
Does my kid see something on their device that says their account is being deleted? Yes. The Kids app shows a full-screen message that their parent deleted the account and directs them to talk to you. It also has a Refresh button so if you restore the account, they can tap Refresh and it disappears without needing a reload.
I removed my child and want to bring them back after the 7 days have already passed — is there any way? No. Once the hard-delete job runs, the data is truly gone. You'd need to add them as a brand new child and start from scratch.
